[lit-ideas] Re: The Mr. Nice Guy Strategy

Simon: Irony? Woosh! Straight over the head.

Eric: Counter-irony. Right over yours. I can read you know.

Simon: The problem I have, the ever lasting problem, is the consequence of draconian resolve; it doesn't provide any reward for good behaviour beyond a notion of survival and after that a good proportion will want revenge for draconian action. In contrast, Mr Nice is in a position to offer a good time to anyone who behaves.

Eric: Good point on a complex issue. We don't know for sure than the human race will hobble itself in a future series of limited nuclear exchanges, so at present there is nothing solid to justify the Draconian resolve. On the other hand, the outcome seems likely if nothing is done, and Mr. Nice Guy is clearly failing to advance nuclear nonproliferation.
