Sounds like you want emotions to make sense.  Emotions don't have to make 
sense, they're outside the realm of cognitive.  They only need to be felt, no 
matter what they are, but in a way that doesn't damage self or others.  

Regarding no army, because we had too much military power is the reason we 
thought with our guns instead of our brains, and here we are, virtually 
powerless.
