Thanks to Eric Yost for his interesting commentary on insulation of
dissimilar cultures in New York
He gives two examples: the confrontation Yankee/Mexican and Yankee/Hell
Angelians
>There is the isolation of dissimilar cultures in close association: oh,
>those damn unskilled mariachi guys playing under my window at
>midnight; oh, those barbarian Hells Angels bikers revving up their
>motorcycles at 4 a.m. after coming out of the bar down the street!
Right, and as Donne said, "No man is an island" so who do they think you
_are_.
For some time Connecticut -- especially the Gold Coast -- so called
__Greenwich (the most upscale town in the whole of the USA, in terms of all
criteria
to define 'upscale') and -- skipping Stamford nowadays which has 'gone to the
dogs', Darien, Norwalk, Westport (and stop) -- were considered the weekend
destination of isolated New Yorkers.
With the Giuliani thing, things gotten political, and Connecticut was felt
to be "another state", and so paying the price of _not_ having a 'beautiful
landscape' as the coves and rocks and excellent vegetation that New England
mainland provides --, the elite of New Yorkers has been buying property in 'The
Hamptons', which is on _another_ island (the long one).
Which proves that New Yorkers are _per natura_ 'isolationists'!
Anyway, for the record, in the ps, the word as it should be regularly
spelled (or spelt), 'insulation'. Enjoy!
Cheers,
JL Speranza

whose closer island is the rather boring "Isla Martin
Garcia!"
