For the record (says overeducated JLS who uses the OED to overeducate the
'fuck him and the OED!'):
there are 14 collocations in the OED for 'the education of a'. To wit:
under
education
phrase:
"the education of a young nobleman."
The problem is the older noblemen who need more of an education. To
restrain their burping, I find.
Under
finish,
"perfect the education of (a person)."
This is terribly otiose and should annoy Strawson, author of "The Concepf
of a Person". Imagine if we had to educate things other than persons!
under
flying
"essentials in the education of a young man of rank."
I can't see what flying has to do with it. I hope it's not a rank with a
RAF, for which flying would _be_ essential.
Again, it's the gaga that need 'continuing education', so called,
especially if they are going to fly planes.
under
gender, n.

--- I'd say, 'with due regard'. I hate the phrase, 'regardless'. How can
they _force_ me to be _regardless_.
Under
hack
Perhaps the 'education of a gentleman' may
but perhaps it may not; it's best to leave the young nobleman of rank to
find what it's may best or may not best.
Under
latter
has completed the education of a gentleman.
Or 'compleated' as I'd spell it. "Don't call a woman a gentlewoman until
she is dead", my motto.
Under

TO DISREGARD. One cannot _educate_ a nation!
under

--- is that supposed to be bad? They say, Peters, I think, a policeman can
only be _trained_, not 'educated'. I disagree. Some cops I met were highly
educated, and one can never expect for _full_ training anyway. We are not
horses.
under preschool
n. orig. U.S. the education of a preschool child.
----- "the kindergarten of a preschool child". I don't think you can have
your cake and eat it, by calling it PRE-SCHOOL, i.e. pre-education and
'education'. Educationalists speak of 'systematic' education, versus
non-systematic, but I'm never sure what they mean. Surely what I learned from
my
nanny was merely nonsensical rhymes (in Guarany -- she was a Native
Argentinian).
Under
pretty
necessary in the Education of a pretty Gentleman to learn
_Very_ pretty.
under
proactivity
The education of a community and a police force
to disregard: one cannot (logically) educate a community (never mind a
police force).
under
pupilship
A fund for the education of a pupil.
Not 'pupil' eye, I hope. As otiose as 'the education of a person'. Surely
if she is getting a pupilship she will count as a pupil. Imagine if
scholarship boys were not boys (Grice was one).
Under stree
You have had the education of a lady.
-- Yes, "Speranza's Boy" they called him, Wilde.
under
unneedful
unneedful in the education of a polite gentleman.
-- I cannot think what can be unneedful: surely gambling, smoking, cards,
cheating, and the Grand Tour are all needful, right?
Cheers,
JLS
