Well, I'm back. Spent the afternoon with my Army
recruiter. He said I could start right away...as a
GENERAL! How about them apples? I asked if I could
wear black leather riding boots and carry a riding
crop, and he said, "Sure you can!"
"How about field artillery," I asked, "Can I get
to fire the field artillery?"
"Well you're the General," he said, saluting me
briskly, and ending his reply with a respectful,
"sir."
"Can I have an assistant?" I asked, "Somebody to
hand me the field glasses when I need them, carry
maps, answer correspondence?"
"You betcha, sir!"
"Can I declare a wartime emergency and impress
civilians into combat?"
"Hey, that's a no-brainer," he said,"You're an
army of one. And you're a GENERAL! Who am I to
argue, sir?"
So, Andreas, you should be getting an official
letter very soon. I insisted on the personal touch
of the letter. Much better than having some
Marines show up and drag you off to a Humvee.
