THE IMPORTANCE OF POETRY

Poetry, 
like all literature, 
is just another kind of 
playing with words, 
even those poems
weighed down by gravitas,
that shake us to the core
of who we are, 
that make us soar,
in reality are no more 
weighty than nursery rhymes.
Poetry is a hoax
played on folks
looking for a validation
that rhymes with vacation.

Poetry's a kind of
sanctification of 
that vacation,
all designed to protect the mind
from the daily grind
of reality.
