Something interesting happening here. Former Finnish Finance Minister Sauli Niinistö spent hours hanging to a telephone pole on a Thai beach with his two sons. He flew back today, and he is seriously mad at Finnish government in particular and European governments in general for not doing enough to help. He is nowadays a VP in European Investment Bank which handles most of development financing outside EU among other things. So I guess the aid effort has at least one enthusiastic and fairly powerful backer, Gordon Brown wouldn't have had happened to be on vacation by any chance, Judy?
