search engine.
I'm currently very distracted by a coincidence: I learned, simply by
typing her name into Google, that the mother of my primary school
friend had died. I also learned that her full name was Jean Esme
Oregon Cooke. Born in South London. Father had a hardware shop in
Blackheath. What on earth was the Oregon connection?

I have two memories of the Bratby house: they had a real stuffed
tiger on top of their piano and at David's birthday party Jean handed
each six year old boy present a paper bowl full of jello and said,
"Don't throw it at each other." Until that moment, this had not
occurred to anyone as a possibility...
