there's lots of wild turkeys in the hills around Palo Alto. almost whenever i 
go on hikes, i
see flocks of them. in an afternoon, you can see maybe 50-75 turkeys. there's 
lots of them.

usually 10-15 birds to a flock. yes, they make a gobble sound, but it sounds 
more like a
chicken choking. turkeys look like the turkey on the bottle of whiskey: like 
long skinny
chickens. they can fly somewhat, about 100 meters, maybe 10-20 meters high.

they aren't exactly timid, but they stay 50-75m away. if you walk towards them, 
they walk
away.

i've never seen anyone hunt them in Calif.
