For the many among us who teach (use M*A*S*H analogies frequently in
class, and "Darmok" is an excellent episode of Star Trek NG, for my
Intro to Communication Theory students), this article from the Christian
Science Monitor discusses the use of pop culture in college courses. You
may or may not think this is a good idea, and it may or may not be
relevant to your classes. It does suggest how thinking creatively about
your teaching goals can make a difference in student engagement with
course material.
