EY:
Yes, if Jesus were a loudmouthed...

Yes, Jesus was loudmouthed -- all preachers are -- it's called preaching.

racist

No racist, Jesus. No racist, Jeremiah Wright.

self-promoting

Yes, if you believe that Jesus was God, then he was self-promoting. But nothing about Jeremiah Wright strikes me as self-promoting, he promotes Jesus' self-promotion as God.

ignorant

Probably so, yes, we're all swimming in ignorance, even you and I.

hypocrite

I've found nothing hypocritical in Jesus nor in Jeremiah Wright.

who [Jeremiah Wright] deserves as
much airtime and respect as the head of the
American Nazi Party.

I can only assume that Eric's knowledge of Jeremiah Wright is limited to You-tube. I suggest that he google up last night's Bill Moyers interview and try to watch with clear eyes.

I've not understood the brouhaha over anything I've heard Jeremiah Wright say. God damn America? Yes! God damn the evils this nations has visited on the world. And this nation has committed some great evils -- evils against the indigenous American population and against African Americans, it murdered hundreds of thousands of innocent people in Dresden and Hiroshima and Nagasaki, two to three million in Vietnam, hundreds of thousands in Latin and South America through proxy wars. It kept African Americans in slavery for two hundred years and in economic thrall for another hundred years -- the legacy of these evils is still very much with us. We are not, I don't think, more evil than most. Nor are we any less evil. Our values of human dignity and equal rights, though frequently violated, are of the highest aspirations. I want this country to prosper and succeed according to those values.

But if I were an African-American, I'm sure that I would be so eaten up with hatred for white people that I'd be dead by now either from their guns or mine. The Reverend Wright has surmounted that hatred. He preaches hope through love and the righteousness of God. I'm not up to that kind of love. I'm with those who burn down their own neighborhoods in blind fury. I cannot imagine forgiving white people. Any white person, even me. And I'm a sweet guy.

I am white. I'm not guilty thereby. When a white guy comes into a supply house and shouts out: "Hey, Jerry, how do you get a nigger out of a ee? --- You cut the rope." I'm not guilty of anything except not shooting the racist motherfucker then and there. God, I hate white people.

But. thank God, I not black. I'm sure I'd have been killed long, long ago.

John: Is it just that we live in what linguist
Deborah Tannen has labeled an argument culture,
exacerbated by litigious or violent conflict
models in mass entertainment and a 24-hour news
machine that depends on confrontation, instead of
agreement, for news?

Mike: Wow! Just finished listening to Jeremiah
Wright on Bill Moyers' Journal. Forget Obamba,
I'm voting for Jeremiah. The man is Jesus.

, ,
, And, in the spirit of Julie's
comment, remember what happened to Jeremiah ... he was taken against his will to Egypt and died there. If only ...

Aggravating the argument culture,
Eric
