[lit-ideas] Re: Naked Gentlemen

In the famous Twing Mothers' Sack Race (see Wodehouse, P.G. et al, "Ten Types of Racing Ambiguity," BobsUruncl Press, 1999) ten Barbs came *close* to equaling one Caprial only because Steggles had slipped an excellent flan into Caprial's sack.

The Wodehouse Doctrine of Ambiguous Pre-Empson, like so much of history and cuture, was unknown to me until someone (in this case, Young Bingo) pointed it out. Flatfooted, my ignorance knows no bounds. I am deeply indebted to Young Bingo--not for this but for assuming that no team named "Sox" could triumph and for wagering accordingly.
