[lit-ideas] Re: Mop Rumpchuck

Preparing a talk to be given this Saturday in Friday Harbor, Washington, site of my favorite war--the "Pig War"...total casualties, one pig--I bought a history, David Richardson, "Pig War Islands." It explains that Friday Harbor was named after someone who settled there, "Jo Friday." The book doesn't say why *he* was named Friday, but I bet there's a "Robinson Crusoe" connection.

Meanwhile, our newspaper reported that on March 1, "Bad Baby Names: The Worst True Names Parents Saddled Their Kids With, and You Can Too" will be published. The paper clipped some examples: Uranus Stukey, Mary A. Jerk, Fanny Whiffer, Lard Mooney, Emma Royd, Naught E. Bishop, Look See, Every Day, Panties Moberg, Panty Brain, Butcher Baker, Early Bird, Toilet Queen, Mop Rumpchuck, Flu Moffitt, Slacker Breerzedi, Pig Walker, Hooligan Winefred, Level Hill, Farmer Brown, Emanual Labor, Plumber Tubb.

Perhaps this would be a good time to thank your parents for having been "square" in their naming choices?

One thing that would help me. Could someone please send me off-list anything he or she remembers from our many exchanges about whether "is that real" is, or is not, an interesting philosophical question?
