Be sure to read Santo Cilaurao et al, "Molvania: A Land Untouched By Modern
Dentistry."
Medical tourism is not a new idea. Think "taking the cure," Bath,
Baden-Baden and all that. Also the history of the seaside. The wealthy
have always gone elsewhere for medical care, proving the old adage that the
scrubs are always greener where the air is clearer.
Twenty years ago, in a semi-serious round of "what if," my wife and I
considered setting up an infertility clinic in Hawaii, one aimed at adding a
little romance to the science of late-life breeding. What might be the
historian's role in an infertility clinic, we never did figure out. Also,
where to get such money from.
BTW: Why did I write of the IT girl's bleached wotsit? I had used too many
pronouns and didn't feel like editing them out. Too many "its, Mr. Mozart."
Both responses removed the "it," perhaps because they were unable to make
any sense of the reference. Now google refuses to cough up the answer and I
can't remember who exactly the "IT" girl was. Someone in fashion modeling I
think.
