While you have been working, others have been out of the ice, hitting one another and pucks, thrillingly sticking frill-clad backsides out, following heaved pieces of polished granite in their journeys toward the house.

Here's a brief summary of what I have learned from newspaper reports and listening to the t.v.

An Oregonian article titled "Loss to Sweden Exposes the Need for Leadership" says the U.S. women, who won a Bronze medal, but not Gold, took the blow hard, but shook their coach's hand and hugged in mid ice. The article explains that an upset can make a team fall apart or get stronger, so all of the Americans had to be there for each other, ignore the white elephant in the middle of the room, and focus on the game. This is difficult.

Noora Raty, Finland's goalkeeper, failed to stop Katie King's hat trick.

The curling is getting very exciting. Canada nearly wrapped up the last spot with a takeout in the eighth end, and the U.S. conceded when Gushue knocked its only stone in the house out of play. Britain is in the final round. If they podium--as the new verb goes-- this country will double its medal tally.

Finally, in the exciting sport of going round in circles very quickly, the white American guy wants to beat the African American because "you don't get any [prize] for coming second in a race." "This is the Olympics," Hendrick explained.
