Closet Celebrities in Lit-Ideas In a message dated 3/4/2009 3:41:52 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, rpaul@xxxxxxxx writes: I'm puzzled: given that her actual name is public knowledge, why did she need to shield herself on Phil-Lit by adopting the name 'Harrison'? ... Harrison Ford was the character Han Solo on Star Wars. Fern ... went by the name 'Harrison Solow,' at least on the list. ... She seemed like a nice person. Yes, but as P. A. Stone, she knew [too many] people. The problem with celebrities (witness Lindsay Lohan) is that they have their private names as _mantra_. As V. Caley notes, Fern _is_ a friend of Harrison's. I wouldn't be surprised if Fern's and Mr. Solow's baby has not been christened "Harrison" -- originally an Irish _family_ name. GEARY. We are doing a survey on closet celebrities in Lit-Ideas. Who are you really. FERN. Fern. GEARY. And you are a published author. FERN. Yes. As opposed (she chuckles) to an 'unpublished' one. Now, that was a nice one, Mike. GEARY. Thanks. Is this the book? (grabs book on coffee table) FERN. Yes, second edition, paperback. "Star Wars: The First Conversation". GEARY. So explain to us this episode of Han Solo actually _surfing_ Philosophy and Literature. FERN. Well, it _is_ a long story. People misunderstand celebrities. We think they have no brain. GEARY. But they do! (laughter -- finishes cigar) FERN. They do, as you say. And Harrison's is a special big one. He loves books, ideas, that sort of thing. GEARY. And who suggested the list in the first place. FERN. Well, my husband had been worked for "Star Trek". So the connection with the production team of "Star Wars" was obvious, direct. GEARY. Why is he called "Solo". FERN. It's a Yddish name. We are Yiddish. GEARY. No, I don't mean 'Solow'. I mean 'Solo'. Why is Harrison's character called "Han Solo". FERN. Well, 'Solo' means the 'loner' in Spanish, and we thought that it depicted the character nicely. GEARY. Was it your idea? FERN. No. My husband's. My idea was to have his Christian name, "Han" I explain everything in the book. (She grabs it -- and reads from it). "Asked to describe Han Solo, George Lucas expands, "He is a loner -- -- a loner who realizes the importance of being part of a group and helping for the common good." GEARY. But why Han then? FERN. Mike, who's going to buy the book if I tell it all off. Cheers, JL **************A Good Credit Score is 700 or Above. See yours in just 2 easy steps!
