To this, you can add the demise of the web. Yep, the web. Remember the web?
I met with Yahoo a few weeks ago in LA and they told me that the UK, more people use
Yahoo
on PDAs than with desktop computers. Yahoo and others are retooling their websites so
these
are accessible via PDAs. That means... no more web design that makes sense on a
large
screen. High resolution photos, lots of graphics, etc., is out due to the bandwidth
limits
for PDAs.
Not so. More site access via PDA has been common in Japan for several
years now. The response is more work for designers who need to produce
sites accessible in both PC and PDA formats.
To both Teemu and John,
The switch from desktop computers to PDAs isn't just a platform switch. This isn't about
"moving the web from desktop screens to PDAs". The kids (loosely defined as "people under
35") aren't looking at websites. They're not using email either.
Kids have switched to IM and SMS. There's no "web design" in those. Just text strings. The
only design is the occassional smiley icon. If they look at a website, then it's MySpace.
Take a look at MySpace accounts sometime.
Try this: http://www.myspace.com/tilatequila Tila's page has millions of
viewers.
