To commemorate the King of the Monsters' fiftieth birthday, the=20

Godzilla films and their surprising impact on global culture. Find out=20=

what a man in a latex lizard suit can tell us about the making of media=20=

icons, the international appeal of Japanese pop culture (from AstroBoy=20=

and Hello Kitty! to anime and Yu-Gi-Oh!), and the enduring charm of=20
creature features.

Invited presentations will be made by Susan Napier (University of=20
Texas, Austin) and Ted Bestor (Harvard University).=A0 Conference=20
speakers will include Anne Allison, Mark Anderson, Joanne Bernardi,=20
Joyce Boss, Martin Boyden, Yoshikuni Igarashi, Hirofumi Katsuno, Barak=20=

Kushner, Yulia Mikhailova, Gregory Pflugfelder, Eric Rath, Sayuri=20
Shimizu, Kevin Wetmore, and Christine Yano.

In addition to the academic conference, events will include a Godzilla=20=

film festival, a pre-conference presentation by manga expert Frederik=20
Schodt on October 5, and an original theatrical performance.=A0 Special=20=

exhibitions will be held at KU=92s Spencer Museum of Art (=93Pop Goes=20
Godzilla: Japanese Pop Culture and Globalization=94), Museum of Natural=20=

History (=93The Godzilla Body Parts Tour=94), and Watson Library.

Students, scholars, families, and fans young and old are invited to=20
attend this monster extravaganza to be held in Lawrence, Kansas from=20
October 28-30, 2004.=A0 A full schedule of events and online conference=20=

registration is available at www.g2004.ku.edu=A0 For more information=20
