The practice of 'plain dress' belongs with not driving cars, not having insurance, not having a telephone, etc. It is silly to take the one practice out of context and give it a 'psychological' meaning. To connect this to another thread, this is precisely Derrida's criticism of Lacan and Freudian readings of symbolic meaning.
