Judy:Hansen is a lot more explicit, you should take a look at them. (I
don't like the sound of that but can't think how to rephrase it.) Also it's
important I'd say that the hero, the main character, is gay.

I will do so.  Also, however you say it, I appreciate being informed re
authors with which I am not familiar, but which might interest me. 

Judy:Reginald Hill's police detective has a gay sergeant who's a major part
of the books and the TV series.

I will do this as well.  One of the reasons I like books, TV, films, etc.
in which a minority group is depicted as of value to society, is that it
helps reduce negative stereotypes.  This would include women as well.
