"Dreich" is a descriptive of miserable weather that goes on a long time. The Scots have a lot of this, but my point was, so do other people. The word needs to be dropped into the mouths of jolly weather persons. "Good morning, personally I'm chipper, but I'm afraid your weather news today is that it'll be dreich, so go get your pleasure from some other fine source, a comedy record perhaps?"

If you heard in your head, as I did, Billy Connolly doing the voice-- he once performed a piece on "weatherpersons"--you'll be pleased to know that you can now download Connolly's voice onto your GPS device, "Make a U-turn. None of this would have been necessary had you been listening a moment ago."

Looking for a YouTube ref to the weather skit (I found sound but no video) I ran across one of his lines: "Bonnie Prince Charlie, the only person to have been named after three sheepdogs."

If that doesn't make you smile, your weather must be as dreich as here.
