Amid yesterday evening's seder readings, I drifted off to Burkina Faso.
My daughter, in one of the wealthiest countries in the world, is being
asked to do a "unit" or a "project," or however the current parlance
goes, on one of the poorest countries in the world. This caused me to
imagine a bright kid getting the idea of calling a number over there,
at random. Of course the conversation would be in French, but I'll
render it in English.
'allo. D'you live in Burkina Faso? Who's this? I'm a student in the United States of America. Not again? What do you mean? Well, you're the fourth this week.
