I
do find myself in sympathy with Heidegger's fear of technology -- that it
turns all beings into "standing reserve" -- or has a tendency to do so.

No, I'm not an air-conditioning person, and thank God for that, for I have
free range (It irritates me that Geary keeps saying he is no philosopher.
Philosopher is not like 'dentist'. Everyone who SAYS is a philosopher is
therefore one).
I'm intrigued that Geary would take sides with Heidegger on the standing
reserve of technology. I would think heat (as not protected by
air-conditioners) turns all beings (at least human beings, or water) into a
standing
reserve: very low temperatures can actually freeze them (to death).
