[lit-ideas] Re: God loves a good laugh as much as anyone!

Irene,

There's not much that you write that I disagree with --most of the things you
want changed in the world, I do too. But I do take issue with you on your
tone. You're always lecturing us, we who mostly agree with you. What makes
you think you're the voice in the wilderness? There are precious few
conservative voices on this list. I wish there were many more, but there's
not. You're preaching to the choir, darling.

But then you go and write: "The only real way to end the zombie-ism is to treat
children with respect and dignity so they don't need to shut down. We're
making some small steps in that direction but not nearly enough. The real
answer, licensing parents, is met by deafening howls against it. How do you
get a parenting license supporter down from a tree? Clearly David, you're an
outstanding parent, but the vast majority need help, a lot of help and they are
the ones who will fight tooth and nail against it."

Licensing parents? What an interesting idea! What licensing test? Yours?
You, who've never had a child? Never raised a child. Knows nothing of raising
children except through academic psychological bull-shit theory? I think not.

And the notion that opposition to such ideas as licensing parenthood is
equivalent to racial lynching ("How do you get a parenting license supporter
down from a tree?") is way, way, way beyond the pale.

OK. That said, now, I'm back to my novel which is about people raised by
unlicensed parents.

Let's see, ancient history: Vietnam, Iraq, Guantanamo, beating people
*to death* during slavery then fighting a war for that privilege, secret
rendition. We support state sponsored execution, otherwise known as the death
penalty, and on and on and on. A *constitutional right* for AK-47's? What
does one do with AK-47's? Atomic weapons that only we have used? These are
Instruments of brotherly love? And our entire economy is based on them.
Forget infrastructure. Cluster bombs. We need more cluster bombs and every
other imaginable means of death and destruction. This is civilization?

We're making progress, definitely, but for every step forward there's a
HUGE step backward, against the individual, against the collective, against the
environment that sustains the individual and the collective, all aided and
abetted by this blob of ignorance called "the American people". We are a hate
filled society that understands and glorifies ONLY money and material
possessions. You're right in that we've made progress since we can see
beheadings as barbaric, but remind me, Mike, how do you get a nigger out of a
tree? If you want to live in a fantasy, live in it. But don't call me
misanthropic because I choose to see reality the way it really is.

For David, I completely agree about forgiveness. There's a body of
evidence that says it's downright good for health. Unfortunately, our lizard
brains (Arianna Huffington) rule. The only real way to end the zombie-ism is
to treat children with respect and dignity so they don't need to shut down.
We're making some small steps in that direction but not nearly enough. The

an outstanding parent, but the vast majority need help, a lot of help and they
are the ones who will fight tooth and nail against it. Having said all that,
forgiveness is definitely a huge step toward civilization. If only we can
convince people that there's money in it...

I'm very glad to see that Andy has not moderated her misanthropy in
my absence. She is the star to every wandering bark. And though she
apparently sees the pursuit of perfection as not only attainable, but is
unforgiving in that we're not perfect yet. If only everyone would think as she
does! But where she sees nothing but sameness in human history, I see enormous
changes. I won't go through the catalog, we all know them. Let me just say
that on reading the last sentence of the report, the fact that I burst into
laughter tells me that we have moved well beyond the self-defeating, moronic
beliefs of those killers. Humor is not only the best medicine, it's also the
worst put down.

Sounds like the people are zombified and in trance states.
Pretty much the norm throughout history. Not so different than stoning someone
to death or when during Elizabethan times it was customary to bribe the
executor with the Ax to make it quick. Likewise the Romans (whom we like to
think we resemble) threw people to lions and watched them get torn to pieces
for entertainment; crucifixions, Vikings accused each other of being baby
lovers if they refused to toss babies in the air and spear them. Abu Ghraib,
Mi Lai (which was not an isolated incident); serial killers get fan mail and
marriage proposals in prison by the boxful, and on and on and on. One has to
wonder if God is shut down too. We're created in his image...

"Whoever, for the sake of money, for the sake of America,
harms the interest of the Islamic world will meet the same fate," Rehman said.

Gunmen with daggers then pounced on one of the men --
identified as Jan Wali, 36 -- decapitated him and waved his bloody head to the
cheering crowd, according to an Associated Press reporter and AP Television
News footage.

The militants then argued over how to kill the other man
because he may have been a teenager, before one lost patience and shot him with
an assault rifle.

The crowd erupted in cheers of "God is great!" and gunmen
fired in the air in jubilation. The celebratory gunfire killed two bystanders
and wounded six, local official Fazal Rabbi said.
