<x-tad-smaller>Moral philosopher and historian Adam Ferguson died on this date in 1816, age 92. Born in Perthshire, Ferguson was chaplin to the Black Watch regiment during the Jacobite rising. He settled in Edinburgh for 40 years where, after leaving the church, he took up academic pursuits and advocated Scottish militias.
