[lit-ideas] Re: English Pubic Schools

 Hi,
I suppose the quip that Irene/Andy has in mind is this:

"What one does in moderation, others will excuse in excess."

It's actually something that I learned in a Christian training class for people
who might *someday* want to be parents or who were already parents or who
wanted to get their lives 'right' with their parents/kids.

It's sometimes a useful principle to pay attention to...and has been used to
advocate certain positions such as Andy/Irene's.

As in the spanking issue, that way of thinking/principle is often used to
explain why there should be no alcohol.

At all.

That there should be laws to state that there should be none sold and that if
you sell it or buy it, you ought to be jailed/arrested.

In fact, when Irene/Andy drinks alcohol while watching a movie or serve it at a
party--then she/he is saying to the rest of the world that it is okay to drink
alchohol no matter what the reaction to your body will be, or how much you will
drink.

It should be illegal for Irene/Andy and her husband to drink wine while
watching movies. Or to serve it during one of their parties.

When she does it, she is advocating alcholism, drunk driving, underage
drinking, etc etc. There are no limits on it because she is advocating it when
she/he is even drinking in moderation.

If it was illegal to drink alcohol, there would be no drunk driving, no
underage drinking, no alcoholism, etc etc.

Hoping Andy/Irene is tossing out the wine she just bought for the weekend and
expecting the start of a new prohibition movement,
Marlena in Missouri

My point is that there needs to be a blanket law of you keep your hands to
yourself no matter what. Then there will be no extensive beatings.
Hi, Irene,
It is already illegal to do extensive beatings.

***If it was illegal to do any beatings, there would be no extensive beatings.
