You know what is terrible?

Waiting at the end of the driveway with your child in a minivan because god forbid they get a little chilly when waiting for the bus -- child learns that they'll always be under the warm wing of mommy.

Wrapping enough equipment about the little kid's squishy head so that even if he deliberately jumps in front of a car, he's protected -- child learns that he/she doesn't need to master the art of riding a bike before he/she tries to ride in traffic.

Making a primary selling point of cars that they are "safe" -- takes onus of driver to be fucking careful.

and on and on and on.

Just because we CAN do things, doesn't mean we should.

Coddle a child until it's 16 years old? THAT's terrible. Why do you think so many 'children' who arrive at college go nuts? Because they have no fucking clue on how to act when their parents aren't around. That's because when their parents AREN'T around, nobody else IS there to show them what is right and wrong, because that's illegal now.

Of course beating anybody is dumb and counterproductive, you will only breed hatred, but 'zero tolerance' is a stupid notion and chronically misapplied to things that need discretion. We're talking about discipline, not beatings.

increasingly angry, and I'm pretty sure it's illegal to be angry nowadays too. I better keep it to myself, Oops, too late, I hit "send".
