would be far, far, far more insane.
Sure, if anyone were actually considering sending
troops into Iran, that would be totally loony.
The question is whether to bomb Iran's nuclear
weapons production facilities--not at all, to bomb
now, or to wait and bomb after they have invested
more in their weapons production facilities.
One of the pressing questions is whether enduring
Iran's attempts to strike back would be worse than
a future with a nuclear-armed Iran. Some argue
that tolerating Iranian counterstrikes would be
worth it for a future without a nuclear armed
Iran. Serious debates haven't started yet on that one.
Others have expressed real joy that Bush (or
someone more clever than Bush) got the European-3
to try to negotiate with the Iranians. Now that
the Europeans, especially the French, have tasted
the bitter futility of attempting negotiations,
they are more aware of the nature of the regime.
The French, for example, who hardly ever agree
with us on anything, are staunch supporters of the
US diplomatic position now.
