Beautifully said.

But as you figure notice the plot. Black man rises from ghetto to become a
sports star. The fates employ a tragic flaw to punish his hubris. The social
order in which black:white as savage:civilized is reaffirmed. The populace
is distracted from the malfeasance and incompetence of its "natural"
leaders. This thing resonates on so many levels. What editor could resist
it?
