lawrence, you are selectively misreading me and turning your typically anti-canadian cant towards me in a sarcastic tone. Read carefully what I said:

"Yes... I agree and apart from a few organized biker gangs and fringe maniacs, few people do commit acts of violence with guns in Canada."

In an earlier email I said something like "and increasingly, unfortunately in our country". I'm agreeing that we've lost hold, especially in Vancouver and Toronto. I think I know the reason, but I certainly won't speculate why this is.

Also... the majority of "total" murders in Canada are people who kill "loved ones" or acquaintances. You've gotta really plan it out and think hard when killing someone by poison or drowning or a letter opener or by knocking them over the head with their favourite vase. Arming every household would make this number explode. It's just too damned easy to kill someone with a gun.

Anyway... your site with statistics just bears out that we should try to be even more vigilant in closing the pandora's box of gun invention and distribution. "Violence" is up and arming people will most surely cause more deaths. If people are already pissed, we should not be making guns available. There is no question there is significant trouble in our society (Canada's) today and the increase in stabbing incidents is disturbing. But just think if all those knives were guns, a 10-15% fatality rate would rise to 80 or 90. Is that a good thing?

A person can stab you with anything, but he needs a carefully crafted, deliberately built machine to shoot you. I can turn a pen into a weapon. Other than a really awkward hammer, can you think of another use for a gun?

Fearing deaf ears,
paul
