[lit-ideas] Re: Ahmadi-Nejad's Letter to Bush

This is a very reasoned, downright moving, appeal. There is nothing
ranting or despotic about this. He's pleading for their lives. Based on
this, I have to wonder how accurately this entire situation has been
portrayed by our media. These conflicts are like the marriage columns in
women's magazines, where the wife will give her side and you come away
thinking the guy should be strung up, and then the guy gives his side, and
you wonder if she's not a complete idiot. It's so hard to imagine that
there is no other way than to bomb these poor people. Unfortunately, I
have a sinking feeling that this will resolve along the lines of the song
from 1950's called Stagger Lee, where Stagger Lee is sitting in a bar and
somebody comes in goes to shoot him (an honor killing probably). Stagger
Lee pleads for his life but the guy kills him anyway. I'm lost for words.
