Dear Judy (and all),
Oh, I'm so sorry! No...it was more that the thread has led me onward to
looking at the issue in even a deeper context and manner.

It is interesting in this study, though, that the majority of the pedophiles
for under the age of 12 are of the heterosexual types. The study states that of
the ages 13 to 17, the victim is usually a boy and his victimizer usually male.
I'm only on page 22 of 160 pages, though. (I just mostly was having hard time
with NAMBLA's attitude that a boy of 14 can give actual consent to a man who is
55 or so. From what I know of adolescent development, it just troubles me alot.
I decided to go further and look at what others have said/studied. It's just
what I do when I get tipped over the edge.) The issue, I recall, came about
when I discussed the how virtue can be taught and gave the example of scouting.
The issue, then, came about with the question of why/how I could think that the
scouting could be moral if they discriminated against gays in their membership
and I was sharing what I have seen/heard as the reasons for the fears in that
matter. (which apparently have not been add
ressed well by anyone as evidenced by the Catholic Church taking the same
stance and claiming that it is the 'gay' priest who has been molesting the kids
in that world.) From there the thread went on and there was a bit discussion as
to why anyone would even go that direction...and from there came the question
(to me and to other folks in the scouting world who are discussing--and have
been discussing for even longer than I have been invovled in scouting) as to
whether or not being gay is inborn/genetic or is something culturally created.
If it is inborn/genetic, then I believe that the issue of gays within scouting
or gay marriage or whatever will become a non-issue. If, however, it is (what
was on our list wondered about) socially/culturally created, then the question
towards discrimination becomes a bit trickier as the door then *may* be opened
for other folk who may want to use others for their own gratification. (in the
minds of those who have fears of sexual exploitati
on of those protecting those on their watch) Primarily, I will state, that I
was then reminded of so many who I knew once (some of which I still know-others
I do not--but whose stories have stayed with and troubled me) My moving from
that thread to this one was of my own making--just showcased how a thread may
take someone from place to place in terms of information gathering.

Best,
Marlena in Missouri

Indeed, this is a travesty of what was said. (I note
that your wording suggests only gays are paedophiles.)
