Hi. I just subscribed to the list about 5 minutes ago, I hope this
isn't a question you've already seen 400 times.
I just bought an Epson C64. According to linuxprinting.org,
gimp-print supports it, and I've found a couple of newsgroup
postings where people have said that they have it working. But
http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/p_Supported_Printers.php3
specifically skips the C64, although it has others in that series.
I've switched my sources.list (I'm using Xandros 2.0, based on
Debian) to use "unstable" instead of "testing" (to get newer
versions), and I've upgraded CUPS and gimp-print. I've also
restarted CUPS and rebooted the machine. When I try to add the
printer, either using the KDE wizard or the browser
(localhost:631), I still do not see any driver for the C64.
Does anyone know if the C64 is truly supported? If so, please
point me to the documentation to implement it. I have really tried
all the sites I know and Googled (both web and groups). If it is
not, is there any word on when it will be?
It is supported in the latest releases of Gimp-Print (4.2.6-rc2 and
4.3.25). I assume you're trying to compile a recent release of 4.2,
although you didn't say. There's a bug in the build process by which
the PPD file generator isn't picking up the new version of the library
that's being built.
The easiest workaround is to remove /usr/lib/libgimpprint.so* prior to
building the Gimp-Print package. There will be a better workaround in
4.2.6.
haaaa volevo ben dir che saro' pur en zucon (con la Z dura), ma managgia
ho instala' 600 volte el CUPS (anca dal CVS) e 300 volte el Gimp-Print e
no neva gnient! adeso ho capi.
(Per chi non avesse capito suggerisco di non far tradurre: non si
perderebbe granche'.... :-) )
Grazie Emanuele.
