You can still have a directory with your own configuration files and 
tables. just specify the complete path to that directory when you give 
qe configuration file name after the -f command-line option. You can use 
~ as the first character in the path, since it's at the command line. 
liblouisxml and liblouis will then search for files and tables first in 
that path, then in the default paths.

I'll have to check on hyphenation. I did make some changes that weren't 
supposed to affect normal use, but who knows.
