You've stated my sentiments exactly; unfortunately I must still work a few more years before I can chuck it all. If all goes according to plan I should be able to retire with flight benifits and then look out world. I've been doing exactly what you've stated for a few years now, when time permits. Few people realize that an airplane is nothing more than a bus with wings. The convience of jumping on and going just for a day to do something for fun is what life is supposed to be. Work is just the means to that end.
As far as cost you have to eat no matter where you are and car rentals are cheap.
