[LRFlex] Re: re-scanned Dickey Bird

Doug showed:

As promised/threatened a few days ago I've re-scanned the photo of the Golden-crowned Sparrow. The previous version is at

http://www.wildlightphoto.com/birds/gcsp00old.jpg

and the new version is at

http://www.wildlightphoto.com/birds/gcsp00.jpg

The biggest differences between the two scans are the scanner's profile and my use of only Curves rather than levels then curves. The use of only Curves gives me smoother tonal gradations while the better scanner profile gives me colors in the scan that are much closer to the original slide (E200 in this case).

Hi Doug!

That's very impressive.

Of course, I didn't think so at first... both photos looked the same. Then, I realized that the 'new' one had the same name as the 'old' one, as so my browser was pulling it from the history files! A quick hit of the 'reload' button cured that!

Not only are both the luminance and the colours of the dickie bird are much better, but the lichen on the trees is suddenly very realistic.

A huge improvement!

The new scan shows a more distinct vignetting in the corners. As I recall, this shot was made with the 400/6.8 Telyt. With mine, I seem to have no visible vignetting unless I use the 2x extender and then the vignetting is quite noticeable. Or is the vignetting an artifact of the scanning?

I've experimented with curves before, so far with no success. Judging by your results, I'd better do some more experimentation!

Nicely done!
