Thank you for comments and interesting responses.
I'm aware the 24mm Elmarit was a Minolta design and I fail to see where
that might be a problem.
The lens will shoot photos, it's not an trophy ornament.
The Oly E1 has a field of view multiplier of 2.
24mm becomes 48, and 28mm becomes a 56mm lens. A touch either side of 50
will make this a "normal" for the E1.
The technical swings-and-roundabouts discussed on forum posts imply sharp
glass performs better in this application. I'm leaning toward the 28mm for
the ever so slight technical superiority of the glass.
This will be my first new Leica lens. The last decade of Rangefinder
years, used Leica was the go, with new Voigtlander and Zeiss when they
jumped into the market place. I'm well immersed in this precarious
infatuation and converted to the Leica "feel". A new lens for the E1 is a
coming of age for the affair.
I've noticed the 4Thirds mount is a close copy of the Leica R bayonet
design. Not surprising really, given the origin of the OM series. The
Olympus DSLR body doesn't need modification to accept other lenses and
there's a wide range of adaptors available, including Rollei SL.

Peter Quick
I, too, own the Minolta inspired 24mm and find it to be an outstanding
lens.
My only previous comparisons were an old Nikon 24 way back in the early
70's that I disliked, and a 25mm Zeiss I used for close to 25 years on my
Rollei SL-35 that was also an outstanding lens. Great color saturation.
My regret is that if I ever would be so inclined to buy a Canon 5D, the 24
will not work on it w/o some modification to the lens or the camera mirror
or both.
Welcome.
Aram
