Keith,
Waaaaayy back in the late 60's and 70's, several camera/lens manufacturers
began using flourite crystals in their lenses. Canon used it on their high-end
FL series of lenses even before they were naming them "L-Series". There is some
really fine glass out there just waiting to be "rediscovered".
