Well Art and Phil, thanks for the amusing comments. ;-) My R-E was a
present, but not from my wife. The R-3s were both purchases last year.
At least, if I had not bothered, I would only have had the R-E to get
angry with!! I know of a watchmaker who had a similar approach to
recalcitrant wristwatches - he would put the watch in a large bench
vice, and slowly screw it up. He maintained it was worth it when it all
'exploded' out of the case.... Don't know what his customers thought of
it though!
I just feel that the R-3s are too old, both in years and technology.
Art, there aren't any flexible circuits in the R-3 - it's too old! But
the edge of the prism housing seems to be used to clamp a lot of
separate wires, and it seems to cut them through over time, the copper,
that is, not the insulation. Reliability could probably be restored by
replacing all the wires and the preset pots, but it would be
time-consuming and so expensive, and if that doesn't work, where do you
stop? Maybe I'll flog them both for spares if there's any more hassle.
Regards all
Keith L
