My error big-time simply because I made a mistake in handling the 2X and 
lens as I tried to lock them together earlier, proving that age and senility 
go hand in glove when handling camera equipment you've normally used without 
thought for many years! :-(

Yes the 2X and the 80-200 work beautifully together. :-)

However, THE 1.4 EXTENDER WILL NOT FIT ON THE 80-200!!

I can't re-call any lens that the 2X wouldn't fit because of the flange 
design and no protruding forward lens elements. Others may have had 
different results, although I can't imagine why when the forward flange is 
similar to the normal body flange.
