Hi Ed,
I have been using an Olympus E500 for a couple months now and am very
happy with results. It comes with a 2 lens kit and is around $700.
Camera is well made, lenses are very good and you can get an adaptor
for your Leica glass. Don't get a cheap one, ie. under $50. Steve
Gandy www.cameraquest.com/
has good adaptors.
You might consider waiting until the new 10mp model the E 400 is
shipping.

I am looking to upgrade from an olympus 750 to digital slr and use
my Leica
R glass. I'd appreicate any thoughts as to which digital camera body
under$1000 makes the best sense. I've read about dust issues and
anti dust
systems, etc. , I'd live a rather quick shutter i.e. minimal shutter
lag.
Subjects vary from birding to travel and sailing. Digital Photography
Reviewis quite encompassing, but everything looks good to them and I
thought
I'd rather request input from actual users. Thanks, Ed
