G'Mornin' Philippe!

Like you, I got my start in school ... lo those many, many years ago!

I had a "need" to do "something", to contribute to my school, but I
was much too shy to participate in sports, or theatre. But, I could
run a camera and I could hide behind it! So, I joined the
photography club, and the school newspaper.

My first "real" camera, was a Nikkorex 35/II (
http://tinyurl.com/29n7vw & http://tinyurl.com/36722k ) which I
used, both in High School, and in Europe, where I travelled as part
of a student tour, in 1964.

The camera worked fine, until we reached Cologne, Germany, where I
dropped it, and the eyepiece popped out, and fell into the
Rhine. Gone, forever!

To my amazement, the camera continued to function just fine, and I
took hundreds of shots, first holding the camera at arms length, so
that I could peer through the little hole and focus on the ground
glass; and then hold it to my eye, to compose my shot ... knowing
that the green blob on the right was a tree, the brown blob in the
background was a building and the multicoloured blobs in the middle
were my friends. I brought home hundreds of slides (all Italian
Ferraniacolor) that way!

This start got me hooked on my two main hobbies... travel and
photography, that survive to this day. They go well, together.

However, my interest in cameras, had started much earlier. As a young
lad, I had always wanted to know what made them "tick".

In the late '80's, my Dad brought me his old "Beauty Six", a 620
film, "folder", with rangefinder. It was in it's original box, and I
still have it. He pointed out that I might as well have the camera,
as he'd owned six different cameras, at one time. I'd taken them all
apart, but the 'Beauty Six" was the only one that I ever got back
together! :-)

So, that's my start.

Who's next?
