[LRflex] Re: Was: Concentration, Now: Philosophy

The camera club that now exists in town is mainly dedicated to wildlife and
hiking photos. While they are very nice, I get tired of seeing the same thing
month after month. And when 3-4 of them go on a trip they all have the same
shots. The club before had monthly competitions on different topics and I
really liked that because it forced you to try some different things and learn
some valuable lessons. I do like nature shots, as you might surmise from my
posts, but I appreciate all forms of photography and like to look for
photographic opportunites wherever I might be, and try to look at familiar
objects in different ways, I guess teaching photography for many years has
made me able to judge and appreciate photos that I would not have thought to
take because the subject, before seeing the photos, would not have interested
me, but now does. A student once took a photo of a clothes line and I thought
it was the best shot I saw that year. It inspired me, so that everytime we
hang our laundry out I look to see if the light is a bit different or the
patterns a bit different and interesting to take a shot. I am known now in
camera club for my laundry photos and I even got a first prize in the Central
Washington State Fair for one a few years back.

Your time away from your monopod and our feathered friends has certainlybeen
fruitful!Hi Bill! Thanks. Although I prefer wildlife work, to most other kinds
... I believe that every photographer should take every opportunity presented,
if only to gain experience in how *not* to do it! For this is the way we all
grow. The other day, when I was heading out to shoot the "Big Bird" model
airplane meet, I phoned a friend of mine (and the only other wildlife shooter
in town) to ask if he'd like to join me. To my surprise, he said "no". He'd
join me, he said, with pleasure; if I were heading to a lake for meadow, for
some wildlife shots, but not for anything else!I went on my own, had a grand
time, and got some good shots ... a few of which were earlier posted to this
list. But I felt he missed a great opportunity to further his craft.Rather sad,
actually.Best regards,David.
