I have to say that the idea of a digital back for the Leica is very
attractive in some regards. However, there is still that touchy subject of
lenses designed specifically for digital sensors. When Olympus first
started making statements about their "digital lenses" on their ZLRs,
there was a strong backlash from both users and competitors suggesting
that their claims were exaggerated. Now, all of the major players offer
"digital lenses", so either we're all being taken for a ride, or there was
merit to the Olympus' approach.
So... my big question is, how did the Leica system perform? Is it on par
with other "pure digital" offerings in the same price range (that I
suspect would be around US $10k for a basic kit of R9/digital back/and a
lens or two)? I certainly would hesitate to drop that kind of money on a
novelty!
Regards,
Neil Gould
