[LRflex] Re: Test shot Tokina Wide Zoom 12-24

Douglas,
I am quite sure the Tokina will continue to impress you the more you use
it. It and the Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 are amazing values for the price. If you
are looking for a lens in the short tele length, the Tamron 28-75 is very
impressive as well although not quite a solid feeling as the Tokina.
Optically though it blows away the Canon equivalent. My point of reference
on the 20D have always been my Leica R lenses, namely the 35mm Elmarit R,
50mm Summicron and 90mm Elmarit R. The 90mm Elmarit R is one of my
favorites with the 20D coupled with an Elpro 3 it is a superb macro lens. I
have not been able to get good results from my 60mm Elmarit R and I suspect
it has a problem from some earlier cleaning perhaps. The 90mm Elmarit R
with Elpro 3 outperforms it which seems very odd to me. The Tamron 28-75
also has very capable macro performance and it a very handy lens to keep on
the 20D. I find I use it the most of all of my lenses. Color and contrast
match Leica standards very nicely. You might want to check it out.

Dave
