Dave,
I remember you mentioned your satisfaction with this lens some time ago,
from what I've seen (and felt) so far this lens really is a gem.
I'm VERY surprised how little distortion there is over the whole range,
and the contrast and sharpness are a lot better than the Canon stuff I
already have.
If I wanted to nitpick at all, there is a tiny bit of chromatic
abberation (towards the blue) which is only obvious if you really look
for it, and which disappears easily in PS CS2 or PTLens
I'm so looking forward to taking it out for a walk when the weather
picks up (at the moment I'd need a Nikonos that works at -10 degrees of
frost).
The only question I have about the lens is - how do the make it for the
relatively low price (although I've heard that Tokina can hardly keep up
with demand, a real front runner!)
The latest tests in German mags say that it is very much better than
similar lenses from Tamron, Sigma, Canon and Nikon and is still the
least expensive of all of them.
Another thing I've discovered is that it's very good for taking shots of
scale models, great depth of field, and you can get really close with it too.
Possibly the best Christmas present I ever gave myself.
cheers
Douglas
