Hi Bill!
If course, my friend! I have converted my grip for use with the DMR,
and it's dead simple!
I made the mistake of buying Leica's wire release with switch, in
order to cut it apart for the connector. Later I found that you can
simply order the connector (Binder USA) for a few dollars and add
your wire. Wiring is virtually identical to the Canon 20D wiring as
shown on my page http://www3.telus.net/~telyt/getting_a_grip.htm so
I just wired a new cord and plugged it into the existing grip & switches!
The end came from Binder-USA. I don't think they are very expensive,
but the shipping from the USA was the more than the fitting. Email
them and they will reply with a quote and they apparently take Paypal.

It is part number 711 99-0479-100-08 , which is the last one on that page.
Once you get the part, email me, off list, for more details.
Operation is slightly different, even though the connections are the same.

I use and old Manfrotto C79 monopod, with Manfrotto's 234 RC tilt
head with quick release plate.

It works very well, but I think I like Ted's Gitzo better. I like
the rotating collars rather than the levers on my Manfrotto.
Here, Ted shows us the proper technique for using of a Gitzo...

Hope this helps!
Cheers!
