Folks
As some of you so rightly pointed out, the Gladiator wasn't a
Stringbag! Must be losing my wits in my advancing years!!
Aaaarrrgghhh!!! >:o :-[ Profound apologies for the stupid mistake. I'm
glad you enjoyed the photographs anyway, and there are still a few to
come! :-) And thanks for the positive comments, much appreciated.
Yes, it was a great show, and although the skies weren't so wonderful,
all of the previous flying days were actually wet, so one has to be very
thankful for small mercies. I hope to go to one of Duxford's flying
days next year, and, like Shuttleworth, the last time I went there was
some 15 years ago. I was quite amused and bemused to see the Bedford
Bagpipe Band playing and marching at Shuttleworth - yes I have some
shots - especially as Bedford is better known for its Italian population
rather than its Scots. (Many Italian PoWs were employed at the
brickworks at Marston Moretaine, just outside Bedford, and stayed on
after the war.) Incidentally, the show included some oldtimer cars and
motor cycles, of which I also have some photos, including occupants in
period costume. I was particularly surprised to see an immaculate FIAT
Topolino, the first I have ever seen on the road. Also a Railton, which
had belonged to an earlier member of the Shuttleworth family, along with
a Crossley (Edwardian), Wolseley (also Edwardian) and others. There was
even a WAAF on a pushbike!!!
It's uplifting to see such fine shows as this, and long may they continue.
Cheers
Keith
