[LRflex] Re: Sarkozy's Cat, difference of view from a Tamron and a Vario Elmar

Hello Gents

Careful, there, my friend! There are a (small) number of ladies among the group, so ....

Although one find good tips in the manual, reading it is compulsory as the software is not intuitive.

An interesting observation. I have not read the SP manual yet, and felt Silkypix was quite intuitive, although the Japlish labels can take some getting used to! Perhaps I should read the manual, and see what I'm missing!

Er, the MMI is disposed a different way from common softwares.

The MMI?????? And explanation, please!

With the Tamron SP:

With the Vario Elmar 80-200

Both were processed in silkypix the same way.

My conclusions? The Tamron SP is giving chromatic blurried edges and there is a slight color cast while the colors are better rendered by the vario Elmar and the edges are sharp. In fact Silky pix can dissolve a lot of blurr and chromatic aberration. To see what I mean you need to look closely at the pine cone in the bottom of the image. And the image has been worked out. the original image from Tamron showed a lot more defaults in the details.

Despite Steve's question of "but which is best", to me the Vario-Elmar shot shows (given the identical processing) more contrast, crisper edges and considerably more shadow detail. Without any doubt, the VE is the superior lens.... especially in the corners!

To demonstrate the power of Silkypix, I have reworked the image of last week, here is the picture from the Digilux, downsized to 220K:

and here is the noise cleaned picture from SilkyPix, off the RAW file, 575K:

In these two, what I notice, other than lower noise, is the colours. Memory is an erratic thing, at best, but to me, the cleaned, Silkypix shot shows your wall to be closer to what I recall than the original shot. Was 1020584_cor.jpg shot as a jpg in the camera? Or was it also made in RAW?
