Keith, I also have had bad luck with R-3's over the years. The R-3 that works until you put it into the case sounds like a pinched flexible circuit board with a bit too much deflection in the top cover of the camera. I also had an RE that had frame spacing problems and it was unsuccessfully repaired several times. I finally fixed it permanently by swinging it rapidly around by the carrying/neck strap and slamming it into a granite stone wall at full force! I vented my anger and got much personal satisfaction from that act! My wife told me that I was an "Idiot" and that the camera didn't feel a thing. She didn't speak to me for two weeks, The best two weeks that I can remember!
